City & Guilds NPTC level 2 Awards:

  • Chainsaw maintenance and cross cutting

  • Felling and processing small trees up to 380mm

  • Tree climbing and Aerial Rescue

  • Using a chainsaw from a rope and harness

  • Chainsaw maintenance

  • Chainsaw maintenance and operations – occasional user

  • Ground based chainsaw operations

  • Branch removal and crown reduction

  • Safe use of manually fed wood chipper

  • Safe use of using a mobile elevated platform (MEWP)

City & Guilds NPTC Level 3 Awards:

  • Felling and processing medium trees over 380mm and under 760mm

  • Dealing with interwoven stems and part blown trees

  • Individual windblown trees

  • Aerial tree rescue operations

  • Aerial tree pruning

  • Aerial cutting of trees with a chainsaw using free fall techniques

  • Aerial tree rigging

  • Safe use of a chainsaw from a mobile elevated platform (MEWP)

Utility Arboriculture Level 3 awards

  • Basic electrical knowledge

  • Tree species recognition, growth characteristics, and associated hazards

  • Ground based pruning

  • Aerial pruning

  • Assisted tree felling

Other awards

  • Certificate of competence in thorough examination of arboricultural equipment (LOLER)
